Pepperologie // Dec 2012 Recap
Last year, I announced the launch of a new venture of mine that was meant to align my strengths, interests & mission to hopefully become one of my major career focuses and potentially the next step of development for Style & Pepper. Well, it has been several months since our December event, and I am bursting at the seams with excitement to finally be able to share an inside look at our NYC Pepperologie event here with you!
A quick recap: I live for creative collaborations, and have a true passion for helping others feel like the best version of themselves possible. Combine those with my desire for genuine connections to real women, and the love I have for the style and design communities, and you've got yourself an interactive day of workshops full of learning, making & fun.
Keep reading for a peek at our flavorful day (WARNING: lots of photos ahead!), and be sure to sign up for the Pepperologie mailing list to be notified of future classes and events! (Coming soon to a city near you!)
We started off the day with our first expert, Grace Atwood of Stripes & Sequins, who walked us through a Jewelry DIY made of pretty rope coils, rhinestones and gorgeous velvet ribbon. Everyone ended up getting to create and take home their own statement necklace (including me!), and it was so fun to hear from many of the women who wore theirs to several holiday parties and events - Love it!
Next up, I had the chance to lead the Fashion & Style course of the day, and enjoyed sharing one particular "challenge" piece (this leather peplum tank from our clothing sponsor PJK) by explaining five different ways to style it up, based on the various daily activities of the women in attendance.
We felt very fortunate to have Sarah Reynolds as our gorgeous model for the morning. (She also happens to be a talented artist whose hand-illustrated stationery was featured in our amazing sponsor gift bags, as well!)
You already know how passionate I am about Health & Wellness, so it probably doesn't surprise you that I was ready to get down and dirty (literally - on the floor!) with a custom-created 20 minute circuit routine for our attendees. We also talked about a few of my favorite fitness resources including everything from e-workouts on iTRAIN to my favorite sweat-ready headbands by Violet Love. I also got a chance to share several healthy go-to recipes of my own, and even made sure to include a super-slimmed-down version of a special attendee-request: Macaroni & Cheese!
After talking about food with a hungry group, we broke for a delicious and healthy lunch sponsored by Alberto VO5, and had a special juice tasting session with BluePrint - Definitely gave us the nutritious jolt energy we needed to continue our full day. :)
Next was our Hair & Make-up session with beauty expert, Donna Kim, who taught us how to get those covetable natural-looking wavy curls and an easy smoky eye that anyone (even me!) could manage at home. We also talked about holiday nail colors from Julep and helped Taylor conquer her fear of a bold lip by finding a perfect-for-her shade from Radiant Cosmetics (above)... One of the best parts was that everyone left with the goodies they needed to get these glamorous looks on their own.
The last course was on Home & Entertaining, and was taught by Roxy Owens of My Cup of Te and Society Social. She showed us so many great holiday how-tos... First was how to use on-hand items to style up a holiday tabletop, complete with the proper formal and informal ways to set your diningware (above).
Next, she walked us through creating a custom cocktailmade with BluePrint juice, (complete with tiny gold stars!), and she showed us a fun DIY tutorial on how to make your own colored rimming-sugar!
We were so lucky to have a long list of generous sponsors who were a huge part of making the day possible. Not only did everyone go home with treats worth over $700, but at the end of the event, we had a special drawing and one lucky lady went home with a luxe gift bag valued at $1200!
The luxe bag (shown on platform) contained so much goodness, but highlights were definitely the holiday gift sets from Droga Chocolate, chic leather accessories from Pomp + Circumstance, a leopard print iPad case from Stephanie Johnson, an entire three-day cleanse from BluePrint, a cozy cashmere scarf/slipper set from Qi New York and a selection of generous gift cards from a few others.
Mr. Pepper can attest that a lot of thought, effort & love went into making the event happen, and I was honestly pinching myself the entire time because of how lucky I felt to have this dream finally come true after nearly two-years of visioning and months of planning.
There is NO way it would been possible without the immense help from our crew, and I owe endless hugs to everyone involved, including (and especially!) our lovely experts. Without their incredible knowledge, unfailing enthusiasm and endless support, I'd still be sitting on a notebook full of ideas wondering if my little seedling of an idea would ever see the light of day.
As I mentioned, If you're at all interested in attending, contributing to, or sponsoring a future Pepperologie, please sign up for our mailing list to make sure you're the first to know about upcoming events, or you're welcome to email me directly to find out about other ways to be involved.
I'm already looking forward to announcing the next NYC/West Coast dates soon, so keep a lookout for that (PLUS a fun video featuring our December event) in the next few weeks. Promise to keep you posted, and can't wait to share more very soon!
XOXO - Jessie
