I’m halfway through reading a book about vulnerability right now, and it is completely changing the way I think about life and blogging. The author Brene Brown writes about believing that, “Courage is to tell the story of you you are with your whole heart.”
I supposed I’ve always considered myself to be at least somewhat courageous, but reading about the science behind shame and story-telling and living whole-heartedly is making me realize that I’ve still got a long ways to go.
We chatted a bit about story and purpose at the beginning of last week, and I’ve been thinking a lot about how this very discussion could contribute to the future and general direction of this site. I’m just so passionate about seeking joy through creating a happy, healthy & flavorful life, and it has become nearly impossible for me to hold back in sharing bits of that that journey with you here.
Ever since I’ve begun to include more personal glimpses within my posts (beyond just the outfits I’m wearing), it has made me realize how challenging it is to know where to draw the line between genuine honesty and over-sharing.
When I started this Let’s Dish column several weeks ago, the intent was to create a sort of editor’s letter where I could write to you in a completely honest and open format, and I envisioned us chatting about everything from body image to business resources to butt-kicking workouts. I’d still like for that to be the case, but have decided that I’d also like to take the joy-seeking part of these conversations a bit deeper…
I’ll be announcing more about my plans very soon (hopefully next week), but make sure that you’re on our newsletter list if you’d like to be among the first to know. ;)
I’m planning to encourage and inspire as many smiles as I can in the upcoming re-launch of The Spicy Scoop, and I can’t wait to hear what you think of the latest S&P project!
XOXO – Jessie
