Concrete Catwalk // Frizzy Fringe

A few drizzly outfit photos from before the IFB Conference that I spoke at last week... More shots, outfit details and my favorite new beauty must-have after the jump!

I usually like to think that I'm pretty low-maintenance in the primping department (you'd be surprised how quick I can get my bootie out the door in the morning!), but I have recently discovered that investing the time on a few simple basics can make a huge difference in my everyday look.  One of the things that I've recently started doing is "fixing" my brows as a part of my typical make-up routine, and it's something that I can't believe I hadn't tried sooner!

I've always had dark, full brows, and although I embrace them now, I hated them in middle school when they took over my face with their nightmarish proportions.  That led to over-plucking, and then eventually into a fear of letting any one touch them, lest they be made into tiny apostrophes above my eyes yet again.  Having to pluck them almost everyday is a pain in the arse, but after a recent visit to a brow bar in Manhattan, I can happily say I've found a new fix for the face framers that used to give me such angst.

The ladies at Shobha Salon got me all set up with their senior eyebrow stylist, and after getting them threaded into an updated shape over a week ago, I happily haven't picked up my tweezers once!  They also sent me home with the proper tools I need for maintenance, and now after a quick combing with a special brush and the quick fill-in of an old scar, I feel so much more polished and put together.  Highly, highly recommend them if you're looking for a little grooming refresher and am already looking forward to my next visit.

Time for you kittens to share your own eyebrow intel...  Are you a plucker, a waxer or a threader?  Any over-tweezed horror stories of your own to share?  Mine were seriously SO bad, you guys - I can't even torture you with a photo.  Ha!

  1. I LOVE this outfit. Wish I could've been there to hear you speak!
This may sound dumb, but I hate my eyebrows. They are a bit fuller (like yours, but not as pretty) and all I do is pluck around them. So bad I can't believe I'm admitting to this! lol I got them waxed years ago and it wasn't a good experience so I haven't done it since. I don't know what to do! My eyebrows don't have much of a shape and that needs to change but I'm really scared to try anything! If I do get my brows waxed should I let them grow out a bit first?

    1. Wish you could have been there too, Alissa! I would definitely recommend letting your brows grow out just a smidge so that the professionals have a little something to work with. ;) Let me know how it goes if you try!

  2. Great outfit; love the shoes!
I waxed my eyebrows for years, but over the last couple years have taken to tweezing. I try to take care of them daily so they never get out of control and that seems to work pretty well.

    1. Thanks! And I totally agree that the maintenance part makes it easier in the long run!

  3. I pluck them, it's a daily thing for me, too. They're naturally full and dark but full isn't a good look on me. They're not pencil thin but I make the most of my sharp arches. I haven't had them waxed for many years - I'd moved right before my sister's wedding and took a picture of what I liked into a new salon. The lady took one look at it and said, "oh, those are pencil," and proceeded to rip my entire top arch off. I've been DIY ever since!

    1. Love a good arch, too! I know it's kind of scary trying a new spot... that's why I'm so happy I found Shobha. :)

  4. I love your outfit here! I'm definitely in the "daily tweezing" camp, but I've always been curious about threading! Might just have to give it a try.

  6. I just adore this dress on you & the vest makes it so fun! I have always disliked my eyebrows because they are so light and sparse. They are part of my daily make up routine to fill them in....if not - I feel so naked. I do still get them wax every couple of weeks to keep them looking neat. My hairstylist also colors them so they match my hair color.

    1. That's definitely a great idea to have them dyed if they're very light... I remember when I used to be so embarrassed of mine, I would toy with the idea of lightening them permanently, which I have to say would probably have turned out horribly in the long run.

  8. I pluck my eyebrows almost daily - which is a pain and I may try the threading (though I've heard it hurts, is that true?). But I will say I swear by Anastasia's eyebrow wax pencil. I like to keep my brows fuller, too, and the wax helps keep them in place. Some days I also use just a little bit of dark brown eyebrow powder to fill in a few areas, too.

    1. Eyebrow wax? Brilliant! That might be just the help I need to get the combing to stay in place all day - Thanks for the idea! :)

  9. This is odd but i always wish i had eyebrows so i could make them look lovely. It makes such a massive difference to your face having a neat groomed full brow. Unf as i am very pale and very blond, to most (unless you are reeeeally close to my face) they are virtually invisible and non existent!!!

Be thankful for your brows all of you!!!! lol xxxx

  10. Nothing like a well shaped brow, an instant facelift. I tweeze. Daily. I also use a MAC pencil and a highlighter to really define.

  11. I'm surprised we don't put more effort into our eyebrows - they frame your face! I may need to find myself a brow bar!
