Concrete Catwalk // I Love Eyelet

March 5, 2012

This sweetly simple eyelet shift dress in a pretty neutral felt like it needed some hot pink tights and an over-sized sweater to make it a little more “weekend”, but I think it would look equally great for work with a blazer and ankle boots!

How would you style it up to make it work for you??

Top to Bottom:
Sunnies – Buffalo Exchange (similar)
Earrings – c/o Bauble Bar
Eyelet Dress – Stella McCartney (borrowed from theOutnet.com)
Belt – J. Crew
Fluffy Sweater – Vintage, thrifted (similar)
Satchel – Vintage, thrifted
Cocktail ring – J. Crew
Thigh-highs – c/o Foot Traffic
Oxford heels – Nine West (similar)

I totally swoon for eyelet. I think it’s delightfully feminine without being fussy. I’d probably punk that dress up a little with black tights, chucks, and a colorful skull broach. Your pink tights are fabulous, though, you wear neon well. :)

AHHH those thigh-highs are awesome! Totally unexpected, but they work. Love them. Kind of obsessed with neon for Spring… and for life. Work it.

An eyelet dress was a must in pre-air conditioning days of the old South. One would swoon in the heat of funerals and weddings if one didn’t have one’s cap sleeve eyelet dress in black and in white. The gloves were necessary, too. To deep cool, believe it or not, to keep dry, and to slap the rude, as well as to block the sun. Being slapped by a ladies cotton gloves was not painful or shameful. It was a ‘referee call’ One felt grateful to have been educated and put on a more clear and profitable path. After a slap, if the signal didn’t get thru, why you were never invited again.

Would you believe I went to the bank at three and stopped in at the thrift store to see if some dutch wooden shoes had been marked down. Yes, they are mine now. But, while waiting for assistance, I found wonderful Eyelet top by Art and Soul, brand new, for $2.50, and in my color (army green with fresh growth green lining). I said, What would Jessie do? Grab it, if it is your size. It was. I feel calm, cool and collected, and oh so Au Cuorant. Thanks, coach, as my 4 year old niece would say.

This outfit makes me happy! The pink tights are so unusual, but you rock them. And the aqua earrings are just the right touch.

I love the pink socks. I’m trying to figure out how to swing the socks and heels thing…but I think I just have to do it. Can I do this if I have short legs? Woe is me!

You were (and are) so beautiful and put together this weekend. I’m glad we met despite how crazy busy it was. In just the few minutes we talked, I can tell you’re such a genuine person and you’d be GREAT with coffee dates. Safe travels, new friend!
