a new motto...

  last week i saw this:
via frassy. by far, one of my biggest sources of inspiration

and then i thought of this:
tumeric leopard blouse for sale at the spice rack

and a little while ago i saw this:
via my sweet friend, adored austin
which made me think of this:
scallion blouse for sale at the spice rack
and then a long time ago, i saw this:
via my edit (i know. she's a bombshell, right?)

and it reminded me of this:
fondue dress for sale at the spice rack

maybe the new motto for my vintage shop should be:
"the spice rack: helping you dress like your favorite fashion bloggers since 2010"

Concrete Catwalk // Red Denim

i've been seeing colored jeans ALL over the place lately,
so i thought it might be time to bust out these babies for another appearance.

i love wearing them with patterns and brightly colored tops,
(see them with a floral corset here and in my pink & red video here!)
but for an afternoon business meeting last week,
i paired it with a nude frilly blouse and some sky high heels.

have you tried the colored denim trend for yourself, yet?
how would you style a pair of bright red jeans?

Concrete Catwalk // Sparkle

twirling!

i went to an event on saturday night where the dress was "creative cocktail"
(fun!!!)
and it gave me an excuse to sift through some of my fancy vintage dresses.
i LOVE getting dressed up!
this one that i chose is actually a size 16, but i couldn't get over the sparkly woven look
and the fringey hem, natch, so i made do - and here's how:
  • i cut two small slits in the front on either side of my waist
  • then i threaded a thick silk ribbon through (in navy for a bit of a contrast) so that it wraps around me on the inside of the dress to eliminate bunching of the fabric.
  • this allowed my shape to show a bit, while still keeping the flowy, oversized look of the dress that i love!
i think this method would work on other types of fabric,
but you might want to make sure you can finish off the slits
(kind of like a button hole) so that the fabric doesn't fray/tear.

might be a fun project to try over the holiday weekend!?
speaking of holidays... i wanted to let you know that i added a discount code

Wantworthy

i LOVE the concept of universal wishlists,
and i've tried several different platforms in the last few years,
but not unless last month did i find one that was quick, easy & well-designed.

wantworthy definitely fits the above description,
and i've been having fun adding things to my list like crazy!
right now, the site is in it's beginning stages, so it's invite only,
but they've given me a special invite code just for the readers of TCC.
awesome!

wanna see a few favorites from my list?!

they're also running an awesome contest right now where you can enter to win
$500 of your wantworthy list, just by signing up!
(i think you only have until the end of the month, so hurry over!)

as if that weren't enough:
they have stylists on hand that you can ask about how to wear certain pieces
or where to find reasonably priced styles you see on your fave celebrities!

here's the invite link again -try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
p.s. um, how AWESOME are those wedges?

Concrete Catwalk // Pixels & Frills

trying to dry out from these crummy storms we've been having
(and buried under piles of work)
so i'm keeping it short today, folks.

this happen to be one of my favorite vintage dresses
(i mean, it's got pixelated flowers and lots of frills, what more could you want?!)
it also happens to be almost floor length, but in most cases,
i like to blouse it over a belt to make it shorter.

also, i saw a photo of someone last week carrying a purse like a clutch,
and i thought it was cool so i tried it.
not sure how i feel about that yet, but here it is anyway.
thoughts?

Concrete Catwalk // Laid Back

this dress was $1, my friends...
i saw it and loved it immediately, but also knew that it would take just the right styling
to avoid looking dated, and to let the pretty embroidered detailing show.

honestly: most of the time, i feel even MORE drawn to pieces
that i know are going to be a challenge to wear.
a super-quirky piece usually means that i'll end up looking unique and making people smile.
(and lord knows, i love dressing with a sense of humor!)

do you have a challenge piece that you're interested in having help with styling?
if you send me a pic of an item in an email this weekend, i'll style it up for you online
(normally a service i charge for, but free for you, my dears!)
and hopefully it'll give you a chance to wear something that normally
causes you to scratch that pretty little head of yours!

lastly, and the moment you're probably waiting for...
it's time to announce the winner of the lulu's giveaway!

congratulations, samantha yeung!
shoot me an email and we'll talk details!

thanks to all who entered, and don't forget,

Concrete Catwalk // Culottes

i'm so in love with the pleated trend that i'm seeing so much of these days
and when i saw these culottes at the thrift store, i knew i had to have them.
(and in one of my all time fave colors, no less!)
they're quite possibly one of the comfiest thing i own,
so i wore them for a full (read: 12-hr) day of styling
for the FFAC event that i worked on last week.

i wanted to look polished and professional, but feel like i was pretty much wearing pj's.
mission accomplished!

a note to my kansas city pretties:
are you going to the fashion group international meeting tonight?
it's always a fun networking event and a great trend report & discussion
and i'm looking forward to chatting with some of my industry buddies
and meeting some new friends, as well!
come say hi if you want!
