Concrete Catwalk // Paisley

photo taken by miss emily

last week's weather was so moody...
65 one day, snowing another, and gale force winds somewhere in between
the key for dressing for this unpredictable season is wearing lots of lightweight layers
and keeping a jacket in the car, just in case.

this was my run-around-town then grab-drinks-with-a-friend outfit
and i felt comfortable (probably due to the jeggings)
and cute (definitely due to the animal print wedges).

do you have a go-to tried and true look that you reach for
when you know you're going to be running around?
(please don't say sweatpants!)

(have you checked out all the new things yet?!)

Concrete Catwalk // Purple

i thought this vintage blouse was so cool when i bought it,
but i was not at all a fan of the outfit i wore it with last week.
in fact, i almost didn't even post the photos,
but i liked the sunset lighting and the super-breeze
that kind of makes it look like i have my own wind machine.
:)

if you're interested in the top, let me know
because i think it'll end up going in the shop soon.

...speaking of the spice rack, i've updated about half of the new spring items i have,
so give it a browse if you're looking for some fun vintage goodies!

blouse - vintage, estate sale
tub top - the closet
denim minnie pants - j. crew

Concrete Catwalk // Flower Power

if you're clicking over from my guestpost at sparkling footsteps,
welcome!!!
happy you stopped by, and feel free to say hello in the comments!
and if you'd like to follow along on my adventures,
be sure to check out my twitter, facebook & youtube!

this is probably one of the simplest looks i've worn in a while,
with minimal accessories and just the lemony yellow blouse
and sailor-inspired pants to carry me through.

i think both of these pieces will end up getting LOTS of mileage
in my wardrobe during the upcoming seasons,
and i can't wait to style them up in lots of different ways!
what pieces are you looking forward to styling for spring???

top - vintage, swapped at the TxSCC, c/o market publique
jeans - urban outfitters
platforms - gift from mom
sunnies - fred flare "carrie"
clutch - vintage, embellished by me (DIY video here!)

Concrete Catwalk // Dipped Denim

more photos taken by the lovely merl
(what would we have done without her all weekend?!)
my outfit posts have been a little out of order over the past week or so...

this is what i wore on the last day of the TxSCC (to the actual panel meetings)
and i don't know if it was because i had made a gaggle of new best friends
and was feeling endlessly inspired, or because i was wearing silky pants
[that should really be classified as pajamas],
but i was feeling really great about what i had on.

could also have been because two different people told me that i reminded them
of the fabulous beth from b. jones style!
(i could have hugged them! i have a major girl crush on that one.)

i also thought i'd mention the dip-dyed sleeves of my denim jacket.
i totally fell in love with the idea after seeing it on garance dore,
(what? she always finds the coolest things that inspire great ideas!)
and so i had to try it on this denim jacket that i thrifted at the end of last summer.

i'm sure someone will end up asking for a how-to, so here it is:

- fill two identical glasses about 1/3 with bleach & 1/3 with water
(for you math whizzes, this means the glass will only be 2/3 full)
- place each jacket sleeve cuff-first into their respective glasses, being careful not to splash
- adjust as necessary to make sure they are submerged the same amount
- check every 20 mins or so until the denim has reached the desired lightness
- rinse your jacket in the sink and repeat if necessary
- wash in your machine as you normally would and hang to dry

voila!

jacket - thrifted, bleached by me!
top - vintage vogue (in kc)
necklace - vintage, thrifted (in boise)
silky pants - vintage, thrifted
belt - vintage, thrifted
clogs - jessica simpson

Concrete Catwalk // Swapped Sweater

ok, so i got a little excited about all of the warm weather we were having
and i think i jumped the gun in thinking that winter was already over.

i put all of my cold-weather-wear in storage, and pulled out my dresses and shorts,
and what do you know?
it's supposed to snow this weekend.
awesome.

luckily i kept this vintage swapped sweater out that i had snagged
at the TxSCC swap a few weekends ago,
and it was just the right layering piece for a night out on the town with g.
also? i just cannot get enough of my DIY scalloped skirt.
i want to wear it all the time, so prepare yourself to see it a whole lot this summer.

i hope you have a great weekend, my dears, and stay warm!
i'll be curled up on the couch editing spice rack photos
and posting all of the new goodies to the shop...
do you have any fun plans?

UPDATE: many have asked about a tutorial for this project,
and it was really almost to simple to even explain...
i basically took a water glass of the desired size
and traced it right on the the leather with a piece of white chalk
(being sure to center the first scallop in the middle-front).
i traced the half-circles all the way around and then cut along the line.
i know that amanda posted a similar DIY here, on a pair of tweed shorts,
so check out her post if you need extra guidance.
feel free to email me if you have specific questions about the project,
and if you try it for yourself, be sure to send photos!

Vote For Me!

this is an utterly shameless plug, here, so consider yourself warned!

the gorgeous and oh-so-lovable merl from clyde's rebirth was a fellow sponsor of  the TxSCC
and at her pop-up shop she had a crazy fun contest that i entered to win a gift card to her store!
to enter, we had to try on her signature harness necklace
and whoever gets the most votes on her blog, wins!

i'm mainly posting about this to show you my outfit
(and how much better it looks when i'm wearing one of merl's pieces),
but i'd ALSO love it if you'd hop over to the clyde's rebirth blog and show me some love!
oh, and you should probably buy a piece of her lovely jewelry while you're there!

*about the outfit*
have you had enough of the cobalt and citron?
i couldn't resist yet another look inspired by my visit
to the kimberly ovitz presentation at NYFW!

Wishlist // Erin Fetherston

i know the bird trend kind of comes and goes, but i couldn't resist posting about
the springtime sweetness of these silky erin fetherston pieces
currently featured on the outnet for 70-75% off!

she's is DEFinitely one of my favorite designers this year
and that little lavender number would be perfect for easter in arizona!
(am i the only one that starts thinking about easter dresses in february?)

*sidenote: i post super-fun shopping tips and style finds on
the concrete catwalk facebook page all the time,
so head over and give us a "like" if you want the inside scoop!

Concrete Catwalk // Pinch Me

i got an email recently asking why i don't feature more casual outfits on the ol' bloggaroo,
and the short answer is that i post whatever i have time to capture,
provided my photographer is around.
i don't really put too much thought into offering a range of casual to dressy...
it really has way more to do with convenience/timing, you know?

this is what i wore to walk down to the st. patty's day parade with some girlfriends.
pretty much as casual as can be, and perfect for sitting on a grassy hill
and then going out for lunch afterwards.
getting dressed that morning, i realized that i have barely ANY green in my closet,
and even this shirt i had to borrow from the spice rack.

hair flower - j. crew
earrrings - clothing swap
scallion blouse - vintage, the spice rack
shorts - j. crew

Concrete Catwalk // Canary

full admission: if you were in austin with us last weekend,
you've already seen this outfit...
i recreated it this week at home to head to a client consult
partially because i never got any outfit shots of it
and partially because i loved it so much when i wore it the first time.

also, i know it's a subtle change, but can you tell my hair is blonder?
baby steps, people, baby steps.

tiny necklace - c/o shop strut

Street Style // Rachael

meet my new dear friend, rachael.
with all of the gorgeous style bloggers i saw last weekend,
you'd think i'd have scads and scads of street style photos.
but alas, (yes i just said alas) i have only these.
i'd say of all the fab outfits i saw, the one she's rocking here
was DEFinitely one of my favorites.
and get this: she got that gorgeous vintage skirt for free
from market publique at the swap on friday night!
styled it up perfectly, if you ask me.

check out her fashion blog here.

Outfit Post // Zebra

all photos by katy of kansas couture

wore this casual look to run around austin on saturday,
and i have to say it was much warmer than i was expecting it to be.
pleated corduroy trousers are perfectly fine for
setting up the spice rack pop up shop in an air conditioned venue,
but a little too warm for walking a couple of miles to mexican food on a sunny sidewalk.

lesson learned.

(the grub a guero's was totally worth it, in case you were wondering.)

sunnies - fred flare (gift from mama)
top - urban outfitters
necklace - j. crew
trousers - zara
belt - j. crew
