Concrete Catwalk // Peggings

this outfit was inspired by a post i saw on one of my daily reads
and i kind of love the way the bright pink
offsets the navy and the other neutral pieces of the look.

also, you may or may not be familiar with jeggings,
but do you know about PEGGINGS?
no?!

(that might because i just made them up)
the pair i have on above can only be described as such...
the perfect combo of leggings and pants.

peggings.

blouse & coat - vintage, thrifted

Concrete Catwalk // Pink & Red

i've been wearing pink & red a WHOLE lot over the past week
(you'll see why tomorrow!)
but this is definitely my favorite look of them all.

i wore this outfit to a dinner party last thursday
they invited a handful of local KC folks
to discuss the upcoming trends and innovations
across numerous creative industries.
speaking with the other guests
and sharing our ideas and concepts with each other was so fun,
and i left feeling excited and inspired.

back to the clothes at hand:
this post is a perfect segue to tomorrow's special saturday feature
when i'll be posting the 5th episode of style spice.

can you guess what the theme is??? ;)

As Seen On // Ink Magazine

for the past three weeks, local publication INK magazine
has been doing a series about "the new workaholic"
and this week, the story was about one of my FAVorite parts
of owning my own business: personal branding.

i feel so strongly about the subject, and i was honored
to be featured alongside some truly great design and marketing minds of KC.

check out the article here, and see my mentions under numbers 4 & 10.

i'd love to know your thoughts on the topic...
how do you try to portray yourself as it relates to your work or business?
have you ever googled yourself?
what tips or advice do you have when it comes to creating a professional, yet engaging image?

DIY // Scalloped Skirt

when i originally posted the this outfit photo,
i had several people ask if i had step-by-step instructions that i could share,
but when i made the skirt, i didn't think that far ahead!
(silly me!!)

not to worry though - thrift stores always have an abundance of leather skirts,
and even better news?
i found a diy on sweet amanda's blog that pretty much walks you through
the exact same steps that i used to make my little creation.

she used wool shorts for hers, which i think is REALLY cute
and i just might have to try that next!

let me know if you have any questions about the process because i'd be happy to try and help...
happy crafting, my dears!

Concrete Catwalk // Lace, Ruffles & Bows

i loved using all of the girly elements of this look
(piled on top of something that would have looked totally different)
to tone down the see-through-lace and over-the-knee black boots.

another thing: i was feeling a little under the weather
but it always amazes me how much better you feel
when you spend a few minutes primping and playing with accessories.
...plus it never hurts to take a break from life to sneak up to manifesto
to share some yummy drinks + dessert with dear friends.
:)

i felt comfortable and warm, and above all...

those darn boots make the best ice picks.

Golden Globes Red Carpet Faves

natalie portman - love me some pink & red (more about that later)
and baby bumps on the red carpet are just plain cute.
many people were tweeting last night about how much they disliked this dress,
but i thought it had just the right amount of kitsch.
i loved that it said "i don't take myself (or my dress) too seriously."

sandra bullock - loved the grecian-style drapeyness of this blush colored piece.
the dress is just perfect.  very mixed reviews on her hair (mainly in regards to her bangs)
but i couldn't decide all night whether i liked it or not.
looks pretty in this picture, so i'll officially say, "LIKE."

emma stone - i have to admit that this isn't the best photo of emma's ensemble,
and i'm even hesitant to post it, but i thought the live shots of her looked great.
the color of the dress looked much less "skin colored" on TV.
i love the minimalistic lines of the dress and bag & i thought her new hair looked striking.

kyra sedgwick - i LOVED this look, and it might be the one that i would have chosen for myself.
poppy orange with turquoise/gold accessories and a chic, pulled back hairstyle.
the one thing i might have changed was removing that little triangle of fabric at the neckline.
did anyone catch a peek of her shoes?
i see a little bit of gold sticking out but couldn't find any photos.

january jones - another look with VERY mixed reviews.
i saw someone post that they thought all she needed to complete the look
was a pair of lucite heels, but i thought that was a little harsh.
the dress definitely shows a lot of skin, but it seems like her hair/makeup
make the look "old hollywood with a modern edge."
that said, if i were the stylist, i probably would have tried
to put that dress on someone with a smaller chest.

anne hathaway - girl is getting RAVE reviews.
could it be because the Z.O.E. herself has made anne her muse?
my first thought was that this doesn't seem like something
anne would have picked out for herself, but that's because she obviously didn't.
i typically like to see her in dresses that are a little softer
because she has such strong features, but all in all: i LOVE this dress.

there you have it folks, just a few of my faves...
did you watch last night? which looks did you love and which did you hate?
would love to hear your commentary!

Concrete Catwalk // Hooded

this coat is definitely one of my favorite recent thrifting finds...
the trim is some of the prettiest (and softest) fur that i have ever seen,
it is just the right length,
and who doesn't love a cozy hood?

also, can you tell that leggings are a MAJOR staple of mine in the winter?
i'm honestly still on the hunt for the "best" pair.
where do you find yours?
i'd love to know because i'm in desperate need of a few new pairs!

sweater & coat - vintage, thrifted
leggings - j. crew
boots - nine west from piperlime
handbag - betsey johnson

i got in my car to head to a [creative] business meeting last week
and on my way there, i looked down and thought
"i cannot believe i am wearing bright red jeans

somehow, the granny sweater and ladylike heels
seemed to balance it out a bit.
