Spice Up Your Space // Scarf Curtains

September 29, 2011
wanted to share a little snippet of our home today with you, friends!
after settling for store-bought curtains on the windows in our dining room for far too long,
i decided to take matters into my own hands and make a large-scale silk scarf “quilt”
to make the window more of a focal point… have i ever told you how much i love silk scarves? ;)
the part that took the longest was scouring my fave thrift stores to find the nine squares
that were all in the colorway i wanted, but you could easily find yours on ebay or etsy.
i hand stitched them together (making evening tv time feel much more productive!),
and was absolutely thrilled with the way they turned out!
especially love the way the light comes through them in the afternoons.

do you guys have store bought window coverings at home?
any other alternative ideas to dressing up your windows?
always love hearing new ideas to try! :)

OMG, you just inspired me more than you can imagine. I love scarves and brooches. My wedding bouquet was made out of brooches and I have been hoarding scarves since High School. I am definitely keeping this idea for my future home. THANK YOU!

So pretty! I love that they’re all in the same color scheme but completely different. Very eclectic!

Love this idea – I have a bunch of scarfs that I love but never wear. I could absolutely use them for a great DIY project. Thanks for sharing :)

My mom used some oval shaped table cloths to make me some awesome dining room curtains. Very cool. Love your scarf curtain, I bet it is really beautiful when light comes though it.

This is a lovely idea…I’ll start scouring for scarves, but it may be a trick finding them in the same dimensions.

What a fantastic use for all the scarves I buy (cause they’re pretty) and then don’t wear!
