i went to an event on saturday night where the dress was "creative cocktail"
(fun!!!)
and it gave me an excuse to sift through some of my fancy vintage dresses.
i LOVE getting dressed up!
this one that i chose is actually a size 16, but i couldn't get over the sparkly woven look
and the fringey hem, natch, so i made do - and here's how:
- i cut two small slits in the front on either side of my waist
- then i threaded a thick silk ribbon through (in navy for a bit of a contrast) so that it wraps around me on the inside of the dress to eliminate bunching of the fabric.
- this allowed my shape to show a bit, while still keeping the flowy, oversized look of the dress that i love!
i think this method would work on other types of fabric,
but you might want to make sure you can finish off the slits
(kind of like a button hole) so that the fabric doesn't fray/tear.
might be a fun project to try over the holiday weekend!?

ReplyDeleteGENIUS. I have a few dresses that could use this makeover. Sometimes it is just impossible to walk away from a great find that just might happen to be a few sizes too big.
