Trendwatch | 2011 Golden Globes

January 17, 2011
natalie portman – love me some pink & red (more about that later)
and baby bumps on the red carpet are just plain cute.
many people were tweeting last night about how much they disliked this dress,
but i thought it had just the right amount of kitsch.
i loved that it said “i don’t take myself (or my dress) too seriously.”

sandra bullock – loved the grecian-style drapeyness of this blush colored piece.
the dress is just perfect.  very mixed reviews on her hair (mainly in regards to her bangs)
but i couldn’t decide all night whether i liked it or not.
looks pretty in this picture, so i’ll officially say, “LIKE.”

emma stone – i have to admit that this isn’t the best photo of emma’s ensemble,
and i’m even hesitant to post it, but i thought the live shots of her looked great.
the color of the dress looked much less “skin colored” on TV.
i love the minimalistic lines of the dress and bag & i thought her new hair looked striking.

kyra sedgwick – i LOVED this look, and it might be the one that i would have chosen for myself.
poppy orange with turquoise/gold accessories and a chic, pulled back hairstyle.
the one thing i might have changed was removing that little triangle of fabric at the neckline.
did anyone catch a peek of her shoes?
i see a little bit of gold sticking out but couldn’t find any photos.

january jones – another look with VERY mixed reviews.
i saw someone post that they thought all she needed to complete the look
was a pair of lucite heels, but i thought that was a little harsh.
the dress definitely shows a lot of skin, but it seems like her hair/makeup
make the look “old hollywood with a modern edge.”
that said, if i were the stylist, i probably would have tried
to put that dress on someone with a smaller chest.

anne hathaway – girl is getting RAVE reviews.
could it be because the Z.O.E. herself has made anne her muse?
my first thought was that this doesn’t seem like something
anne would have picked out for herself, but that’s because she obviously didn’t.
i typically like to see her in dresses that are a little softer
because she has such strong features, but all in all: i LOVE this dress.

there you have it folks, just a few of my faves…
did you watch last night? which looks did you love and which did you hate?
would love to hear your commentary!

I didn’t really watch the Globes… I’m just catching up on the fashion. HowEVER, I agree with your take on Natalie Portman… Love it. She is glowing! Also, I very much like Emma Stone, so to me, she does no wrong. Plus, I love that salmon (or coral?) color. One you missed that I liked was Michelle Williams… apparently no-one else liked her 70’s inspired flower power gown, but I thought she looked awesome.

    End of rant!

I am loving kyra sedgwicks look. I think she is soo gorg. I adore Sandra’s dress’s breathtaking, but I am not sure that I like the bangs on her either? Thanks so much for the re-cap. I missed the Globes.

Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway are def my faves of your list… I also think january jones rocks that dress, however it reminds me a little too much of the dress often worn by the most popular “Cylon” character in Battlestar Galactica–here. ha!

Also to add to your list (i didn’t watch but just browsed through some photos), I also really liked Sarah Hyland,Julie Bowen,Arielle Vandenberg (short dress, super cute), Claire Danes (at first the color threw me but the shape is gorgeous), Jane Krakowski (more than a baby bump!), and of course…Angelina Jolie.
